Re-enactments of the infamous 1869 robbery of the Daviess County Savings Association and murder of cashier Capt. John Sheets have occurred in Gallatin, MO, four times. The first re-enactment occurred in 1971, sponsored by the Gallatin Chamber of Commerce to mark the 100-year milestone of the crime. The second re-enactment was performed in 1990, sponsored by the Daviess County Fine Arts Council as a paid performance by the James-Younger Gang re-enactors of greater Kansas City for Gallatin’s Chautauqua. A repeat performance was hosted in 1991. The most recent staging of the bank robbery occurred in 2019 during Gallatin’s Chautauqua, sponsored by the Friends of Gallatin organization. The following photo galleries present scenes from each of these re-enactments.
